What Public Employees need to know about the Janus Ruling
The United States Supreme Court has ruled in Janus v AFSCME that Public Employees cannot be forced to be members of Public Employee Unions or forced to pay 'Fair Share' dues. Because of Union support of political candidates and issues, the U.S. Supreme Court has decided it is a violation of the 1st Amendment to force members to support political speech they may not condone.
This post is not an endorsement or unendorsement of Janus, just a statement of the facts of law.
There has been a lot misinformation about how to leave your Union.
You DO NOT have to notify your Union. All that need be done is to notify your employer, usually just payroll, that you no longer wish to have Union dues withdrawn from your paycheck.
So if you chose not to pay dues any longer, you now know the simple process.
If you chose to continue. Nothing need be done.
